Thank you for becoming a member of The 1939 Society

When you have spoken to your financial advisor and included the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad in your plans, please let us know at development@pfars.org. Once you let us know we will be able to recognize you as a member of The 1939 Society. The 1939 Society is our way to properly thank you for making the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad as part of your planned giving and leaving a legacy for years to come. Here are some ways you can include us in your plans and become a member of The 1939 Society.

Name the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad as a beneficiary of your IRA or other qualified retirement plan, insurance policy, or bank account.

  • For many, retirement funds can be the most highly taxed assets owned, as the funds can be subject to both estate and income taxes. The Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad is tax-exempt, so your bequest of a retirement fund can pass to the squad tax-free.
  • When you name the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy, the assets pass to the squad tax-free.
  • You can name the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad as a beneficiary on a bank or brokerage account through a “Pay on Death” or “Transfer on Death” option. Accounts that pass to the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad in this manner will not be included in probate.
  • Most administrators require a beneficiary designation form to name the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad as a beneficiary of your fund, account, or policy. Please use the official name of the organization —“Princeton First Aid And Rescue Squad Inc”—when naming the squad as a beneficiary.
  • Even though the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad was formed in 1939, the official date of incorporation for the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad is March 14, 1940. This information will be required on some beneficiary designation forms.

Make a gift through your will or trust

  • A will or trust is a thoughtful document that identifies the people and causes you care about most. You can make a gift of a specific dollar amount or particular assets, such as securities to the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad, or you can name the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad to receive all or a percentage of the remainder of your estate, after specific amounts bequeathed to other beneficiaries are distributed and estate-related expenses are paid.
  • Trusts which benefit both family members as well as the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad can be set up through your will or revocable trust. A lead trust saves estate taxes by providing annual payments to the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad in lieu of taxes; the remaining amount goes to your family or friends. A remainder trust provides payments to your surviving family members or friends for life or a specified term, with the remainder going to the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad at the end of the term.

Here is sample language for two types of bequests you can make to the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad.

A simple bequest can be a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate.

  • Specific: “I devise to the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad, a nonprofit organization in the State of New Jersey located at 2 Mount Lucas Road, Princeton, NJ 08540, the sum of $___________.”
  • Percentage: “I devise to the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad, a nonprofit organization in the State of New Jersey located at 2 Mount Lucas Road, Princeton, NJ 08540, ______% of my estate.”

Making a bequest is the easiest way to support the Squad because it allows you to maintain control over your assets during your lifetime. An unrestricted bequest allows the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad to the funds for the organizations priorities at the time the gift is received. We will also accept restricted bequest to our endowment.
