Community CPR Education

The Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad offers three levels of American Heart Association CPR classes, ranging from introductory to advanced:

CPR for Family and Friends - This CPR awareness program is intended for family members, friends and members of the community who want to learn how to perform CPR on adults, children, and infants, and how to help someone who is choking, but who do not need a certification card. No prior medical knowledge or training is assumed. (2 ½ - 3 hours)

Heartsaver CPR - This certification course is intended for laypeople who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities, who want to learn to use an AED (defibrillator), or who would like an AHA Heartsaver CPR certification card. Certification last for 2 years. (3 ½ - 4 hours)

BLS for Healthcare Providers - This certification course is for health care providers, such as EMS personnel and nurses, or others who need certification in Healthcare Provider CPR (also known as Basic Life Support). This also satisfies the "CPR for the Professional Rescuer" requirement. Certification lasts for 2 years. (Full class: 4 ½ hours, Recertification: 3 hours)

We anticipate that we will offer a Healthcare Provider class roughly every 4 months. Classes are scheduled approximately one month in advance, so check back for details if the class is currently listed as TBA. The fee is $60 per person and includes a textbook.

We hope to continue to offer a CPR for Family and Friends class several times as well, but frequency will depend on continued demand. This class is offered free of charge, but advanced registration is required and class size is limited. You will receive a book the night of the class that is yours to keep. The full course is approximately 2 ½ - 3 hours. The first half covers adult and child CPR and choking, and the second half covers infant CPR and choking. If you are only interested in learning how to perform CPR on adults and children, you may chose to leave during the break between the two sections.

Hearsaver classes are offered as the demand arises. While there is no fixed schedule, if your organization (from business to group of friends!) is interested in a class, please contact us and we can arrange something. Fee will depend on class size, location, and exact content of course but typically ranges from $30 - $50 per person.

  • Next Healthcare Provider Full Class: TBA, expected September 2008 ($60 Class Fee)

  • Next Family & Friends Class: TBA, expected June 2008 (FREE)
